10-digit dialing requirement for local calls
The FCC has mandated 10-digit dialing for all local calls.
In April 2021 customers in the 618 area code could start dialing the area code + telephone number for all local calls. This change in dialing does not alter how calls in and out of the local area are billed. If a call in the past was a long distance toll charge, per minute fees will still apply.
Local calls attempted after October 24, 2021 will require the 618 area code to complete. If the call is not dialed as a 10-digit number, a recording will inform you that your call cannot be completed as dialed. Customers will not have to change phone numbers and the price of the call will not change due to the dialing change.
Call (618) 939-6112 if you have any questions.
Important Information About Robocalls
The HTC service area is currently experiencing increasing numbers of scam robocalls. These automated calls may appear to come from local phone numbers, but they are not local callers. These callers are illegally spoofing the originating number to appear as a local caller. These calls are an attempt to gather your personal information in order to run scams.
