The Birth of the Internet
In the late 1960s, the Department of Defense funded a project called ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network) that would allow four colleges — UCLA, Stanford, University of Utah, and University of California -– to transmit information to each other via a network connection. For years, computer science professors at each school worked diligently on the project until finally on October 29th, 1969, digital information was successfully sent from one computer terminal at UCLA to another terminal at Stanford.
