If your family is interested in home Internet service but you aren’t sure you can afford it, talk to an HTC representative. We are proud to participate in the Lifeline Program, a federally funded service that offers home phone and Internet at reduced prices for qualifying low income households.
What is Lifeline?
In 1985, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) established the Lifeline program to help provide qualifying low-income American households with the security of phone service. In 2016 with Internet service almost a must for any household who needs to stay connected, the FCC added broadband, or Internet service, as an option in the Lifeline program. Participants may receive up to $9.25 towards either their monthly home phone or Internet service bill.
Who Can Participate?
In order to receive discounted home phone or Internet service, you must have a household income of 135% or less than Federal Poverty Guidelines. If you participate in one of the following government programs, you will likely qualify for Lifeline.
- Medicaid
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
- Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA)
- Veterans Pension or Survivors Pension
How Can I Apply for Lifeline?
Contact a customer service representative at HTC to request an application. You will need to show one of the following upon submitting your paperwork:
- A current pay stub or most recent tax return
- A card or award letter to prove participation in one of the federally funded programs listed above
